I went to Rite Aid yesterday and was thrilled with all the good, great, awesome deals I got! My cart was loaded ...well, it's been fuller in the past, but it was a bunch of small items so it still counts as being loaded. I had a stack of coupons. I'm heading out to the register. I got stopped. By an elder Lady who looked like she still had some spunk in her. She wanted to know where I got my purse. My supersize bag that I got only after testing it by loading my coupon binder into it. The bag passed. (I got my bag at Old Navy, btw.)
I began checking out. My total was some thing like $86. The coupon scanning began. During this time of the transaction a couponer's eyes are always focused on the little computer screen, watching ever dollar amount deduct from the total, making sure everything is going smoothly. I had no idea there was someone behind me until I heard, "Oh my!" and then "Wow!" and then a chuckle of amazement. My total after everything, including +UPs, was $.05, which was pretty nice. The cashier was awesome - had no problem with any of my coupons - and the woman behind me was nice and encouraging. Now, I find this all funny because.....
This never happens when I'm around, but Dawn tells me twice people have asked her if she was an extreme couponer thanks to TLC's psycho show. The answer to this question is NO! It's like you don't really understand a community of any people unless you're involved with that community.
Extreme Couponers take EVERYTHING! They're never considerate to others that just might want to buy that sale item later in the week. They go so HUGE that there's ALWAYS a problem at the checkout. There are no limitations for them. Anyway, this is what I've gathered from the 1 1/2 episodes I've watched and from I've heard from others. Dawn and I often don't clear the shelves... unless there's only two of an item to be had.
But anyway, I just think it's funny that Dawn is the one to receive accusations and I get the praise. But either way, in the end, FREE is FREE, and I'll take some misjudgment so that my weekly paycheck - many know how impressive that is - can go to other things than my hygiene - I've probably never been cleaner than now thanks to coupons! That's not true - I'm a woman - we generally are the better smelling gender. (all of my products are now name brand, though. Goodbye, Equate!)
